Welcome to Substack Subsnacks

Substack is pretty much a throwback to the bygone blogging days,
but with a subscription model tacked on. It’s a way for writers to broadcast everything from quick blips to long-form trips in one place with an honouring trade between author and audience.

But I call it Subsnacks because it’s more fun and reflective of what it is to me — a delicious kitchen full of people, nibbles and talking. There’s buzz, there’s napkins, there’s rotating plates, there’s sipping and swigging and it’s all just really delightful.

It does away with the drive-by window nature of Instagram where we all grab our bags and eat in our cars scrolling on our phones and more of a place to actually sit together and absorb and ingest and feel and be.

Subsnacks is an editorial buffet. Have a snack, scoop a little bit of everything or down the whole feast. Chef’s choice.

What are you in for?

I’m running with a few editorial streams that light me up, but all of it is subject to change with the weather and seasons. And your suggestions, of course.

  • As a regular stalwart of the Dani Kreeft Writes canon, The Good Newsletter boasts writing, offerings, malings, playlists, the good list and a sneak peek at the I ASKED A FRIEND series. It’s a loaded potatoooo.

  • I write, but there’s more to it. There’s what happens before and after and behind the scenes, and I get to narrate that all both in writing and in audio (Yes! I do audio commentary!). It’s like a teeny-tiny podcast of me riffing on the pieces I write out of daily life.

  • A few years ago, my friend told me I should have an advice column called Dani Lobster because my last name means “lobster” in Dutch. But when I thought about it, I figured that was the perfect name to foray myself into food, so stay on the look-out for one recipe a week made and shared by yours truly.

  • What you’ve come to know and love from my book and from my work is delivered in droves here. Snackable vignettes, I call them. And since film is my aesthetic for life, I like to pair the two together so you get a one-page magazine that makes life feel that much sweeter.

  • Since April 7, 2025, I’ve unplugged TV, news, podcasts, movies and YouTube for a year. It came as a faint idea in mid-March, and I wasn’t able to shake it, so here we go. It’s a year-long deep dive I’ll be bringing you in on.

“Your work puts feelings I have that may be known or unknown into words in a way I couldn’t have done myself.”

Dani Lobster
Recipe Cards:

A few years ago, a friend told me I should have an advice column called Dani Lobster because my last name means “lobster” in Dutch.

The idea was circling for years, but then I thought, “What better name for my foray into food?” So that’s what this has turned into. Not an advice column, but a weekly recipe box.

If you have any questions, suggestions or a challenge (make something with _____ as the centerpiece!), I’m here to please.

Kati Moore —

“I look to your writing when I need a friend, need inspiration, need a reminder that there’s brilliant deep thinkers left in the world and we’re not all just numb, blind robots.”

Lindsay Galbraith —

“Your stories and learnings are personal. It’s not, “Here’s how you can be better.” It’s, “Here’s how I’m making myself better. Want to come along?”.”

FAQs

How much does it cost?

It’s $7/month or you can get a month for free by dipping into the annual plan for $77/year.

How often do you post?

Typically twice a week — sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I send out one free post a month, so 90% of the pie is fed to paid subscribers.

Do I need the app?

Every post, whether paid or free, gets shot directly to your email, so it’s possible to just read them like emails without going into the app if that’s an extra step that inhibits you.

How is this any different than your Instagram?

At first it wasn’t! It was more of an extension of it, but I’ve created distinct buckets and exclusive work so that this really is a separate territory. It’s deeper. It’s better. It’s cooler. If you ask me.

Can I unsubscribe?

Yeah, dude. Anytime. All you need to do is whip into your Account Actions section on the Manage Subscription page and select “To cancel your paid subscription, click here.” You can either pause your subscription or cancel it completely.

Do you offer a free trial?

It’s such a low stakes cost per month, that a free trial feels silly. Just take the leap! You won’t regret it, and even if you do, it’s a couple coffee’s worth down the toilet if you wanna bounce.

Thank you for being here.

You and I both know how many creators, writers and producers of content are out there (the population of planet earth), and you’re leaning into mine.

It isn’t lost on me, and I hope I can do you the honours of serving you with the written word, with a good eye, with what’s on my plate and in my heart.

To me, Subsnacks is all about sharing what’s subterranean, so thank you for going there with me.

For choosing to sit at this table.
